Workshop #3

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 and the song “All of Me” by John Legend both show that true love is strong and does not change easily. In the poem, Shakespeare says real love does not “alter” or fall apart when life gets hard. He believes love should stay the same no matter what happens. In “All of Me,” John Legend talks about loving someone completely, including their flaws and mistakes. Both the poem and the song show that real love is not perfect, but it is loyal and lasting.

The rhyme and sound in both works help show this idea. Shakespeare’s poem follows a clear rhyme pattern, which makes it sound steady and controlled. This matches his message that love is stable and does not change. In the song, John Legend uses repetition, especially in the chorus, to make the message more emotional and easy to remember. The repeated lines make the song's love feel constant. Even though the poem and the song sound different, they both use structure and sound to show that love continues over time.

The tone of both the poem and the song also connects. Shakespeare’s tone is serious and confident, as if he were explaining what true love really means. He uses strong images like storms and stars to show that love can survive anything. The song has a softer, more personal tone, as if someone were speaking directly to the person they love. Even though they feel different, both create the same idea that love is powerful and unbreakable T
